Hey guys. The world is hard to navigate sometimes.
Recently I watched an amazing film called “Adventures in Babysitting” starring Elizabeth Shue. The movie starts off with the lead character dancing around her room lipsynching to “Then He Kissed Me” by The Crystals. She then gets blown off by her boyfriend on date night and instead picks up another babysitting shift. Hilarity ensues when she gets a call from her friend who decided to run away from the suburbs and move to the big city, but then gets sketched out when she arrives at the bus station.
Why am I writing about this? Because she is calling from a PAY PHONE!! There were no cell phones in the 80’s, nor Google Maps, nor Facebooks, Myspaces, nor Tumblrs.
Later on in the flick, the babysitting crew gets a flat tire. Oh shit. Nowadays, you can call somebody, whether it be AAA, your mom, the cops, all from a phone. In the 1980’s however, you could make a great movie based on trying to find someone at a bus station and getting a flat tire.
Once again, why am I writing about this? Technology is moving faster than we are, and we’re adapting to the internet in really crazy ways. Everyone with internet access seemingly exists in two separate existential planes: real life, and the internet.
Ramble ramble ramble.
Anyway, Andrew Jackson Jihad has a Tumblr now, and we can update it from our phones. Furthermore, posts on this website can link to our “Twitter” account. Holy balls!
Also, here’s a message from Ben and some tour dates:
First off, we are releasing a four-way Sheriff Arpaio themed split with Porches, Father’s Day and Treasure Mammal. A test pressing is available on ebay for the next couple of days. Just follow this link. The proceeds will go to No More Deaths and the release show will be at The Trunk Space on September 24th. Before that though, AJJ is doing a sweet tour with Blunt Mechanic. I, Ben, will miss this one since we have already reached our Ben-quota for the trip. I trust you will treat my cohort, Sean, with the utmost respect. They grow up so fast…
In international news, we are indeed headed across the mighty Atlantic to make friends in The United Kingdom, Germany, Austria and Holland. All of the shows will be with our spiritual leader, Kepi Ghoulie. Dates will be coming soon. I am in need of an upright bass for these shows though. If you know anyone who would rent/lend me an upright for one or more shows, let me know and I will hook you up to the best of my ability. Just e-mail us at ajjphx@gmail.com.
The following shows will be with our best good friends in Blunt Mechanic.
