Hey Gang!
So, one of the pictures above looks a lot like the next entry down on this amazing but difficult to format blog. This is not a coincidence or an oversight by the dummy that runs this blog (sean). This picture is meant to indicate that the lineup for our 12-17 show at the Crescent Ballroom is complete! So, let’s learn a little bit about our friends:
Sweetbleeders: Sweetbleeders are one of Arizona’s greatest bands. Their lead singer Robin played AJJ’s first show at a coffee shop called The Willow House where we all worked. Robin also invited us to play shows at a place called the Emerald Lounge, which we proudly played! He also introduced us to Steph and JRC of the Trunk Space! We probably wouldn’t still be a band if not for Robin and Sweetbleeders.
ROAR: If you have not followed ROAR on Tumblr yet, it would be advisable that you do. ROAR is the delicious wine squeezed from the mind grapes of Owen Evans. His last band was called Asleep in the Sea. Like ROAR, they were really amazing. Everything Owen touches is gold, I believe. This can be evidenced by his making our sloppy, slovenly band sound good on the song Big Bird, which he helped arrange as well as played drums and synth patches.
Empire of the Bear: This band is a supergroup! EotB is fronted by long time AJJ player, roadie, roommate, documentarian and resident sninja John “Skittles” “Scooter” “Oso Gigante” Martin. The rhythm section features former AJJ keyboardist Ryan “Nature’s President” Stephenson on bass and Andrew “Jamdrew” Baker on drums. Smokin’ lead guitar is handled by none other than BEN GALLATY (from our band!). I would describe their sound as an angrier Elvis Costello, or a more talented Kiss (albeit with less totally awesome licensing).
Bringing the night all together by spinning trippy, weird records is our dear friend Alex Votichenko, who spins under the name Djentrification. Along with DJing, Alex has made a living for decades painting signs, selling burritos and doing graphic design for several Phoenix businesses, promoters and bands. After the show, you are encouraged to attend Palace, his Saturday night spot at Filmbar, walking distance from the Crescent.
The people we are playing this show with are not only incredible musicians; they are also dear friends, roommates and mentors that we hang out with on the reg. This is our only show for a few months and we would love to see you there (travel permitting).
We would like to thank Steve Chilton for putting this on for us. Once again, here is the ticket link.
Thanks for reading! Sorry for the long-winded entry, I’m just so excited!

p.s. if you click on the pictures you can read some explanatory captions. I don’t know how to make those show up on here anymore.
